The First Alert Weather Team is tracking several tornadoes over the area on Sunday

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – There were five confirmed tornadoes in the NewsChannel 10 coverage area on Sunday, June 2, 2024, according to the National Weather Service offices in Amarillo and Lubbock.

The first tornado originated from a storm in Hutchinson County, northwest of Borger, and formed directly over Lake Meredith. Near the touchdown site, the mesocyclone can be seen picking up water from the ground! The tornado lasted a total of three minutes and was classified as an EF0 by the Amarillo National Weather Service.

A second tornado fell from the same storm, this time a little farther north and with a wider funnel. However, it only lasted 2 minutes and was also rated EF0 by the Amarillo National Weather Service.

Another storm formed in Briscoe County, producing a total of three tornadoes. As seen above, the three varied greatly in size, strength, and duration. The exact duration, length, latitude, and EF rating have yet to be determined by the Lubbock National Weather Service.

Fortunately, as of Monday night, no injuries or deaths were reported from the five tornadoes.
