State police arrest Dexter man for arson

On Monday, June 3, 2024, at approximately 5:15 a.m., State Police in Watertown responded to a reported fire at 104 E Kirby Street in the Village of Dexter.

The investigation revealed that Adam A. Stafford, age 55, of Dexter, NY, approached the rear of an occupied parked vehicle and threw a flammable substance at it. Stafford then lit the vehicle on fire. The victim was able to escape from the vehicle unharmed.

Stafford fled on foot south toward the Dexter Market at 308 Brown Street. Stafford walked to the east side of the building, poured a flammable substance onto items on the facade, and set them on fire. No injuries were reported.

Stafford was arrested for Arson 2nd Degree (Class “B” Felony), Arson 3rd Degree (Class “C” Felony), and Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree (Class “D” Felony). He was arraigned in Jefferson County CAP Court and remanded in lieu of posting $25,000 cash, $50,000 bond, and $75,000 partially secured bond.
