Family of man killed in 2020 shooting seeks answers and justice after police say case closed

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (BRPROUD) – The mother of Loston Tiner Jr., a man shot and killed in 2020, is asking the public to come forward with any information that could help police solve her son’s murder.

“Please come forward and share any information or tips you have,” said Renee Tiner.

She is asking the public for help in solving the murder of her 21-year-old son.

“Unbearable. I keep going, but I’m not really there. Everything I do reminds me of my child,” Renee said.

In August 2020, someone shot Loston in the parking lot of the Arcadian Apartment Complex on South Flannery Road in Baton Rouge. Police said the trail to the killer was lost.

“This is an apartment complex. I know there were people who saw something. Some of those people need to call us,” said Lt. Bryan Ballard, chief of the Baton Rouge Police Department’s homicide unit.

Loston’s older brother Marcus Tiner spoke with BRProud via Zoom. The former LSU track star now lives in California.

He said his brother was on his way home from getting chicken that night. For some unknown reason, he stopped at the apartment complex. He parked, got out, and was shot multiple times. His food was still hot.

“He must have known someone there, or someone asked him to meet there,” Marcus said.

Police said they still have no motive for Loston’s murder.

“I won’t stop until I find out who killed my son,” Renee said.
