Man kills elderly parents, partner and himself in murder-suicide at southwest Miami-Dade home – NBC 6 South Florida

A man shot and killed his elderly parents and his partner in a house in southwest Miami-Dade on Sunday and then turned the gun on himself. Police and family members said it was a murder-suicide.

Miami-Dade police identified the shooter on Monday as 62-year-old Jesus Regueira Jr.

According to police, Regueira shot and killed his parents, 83-year-old Jesus Regueira Sr. and 84-year-old Mercedes Morato, as well as 61-year-old Kyrsten Stahre, who police identified as his girlfriend but who family members said was his wife, before turning the gun on himself.

The tragic scene took place in a home in the 4500 block of Southwest 137th Court in Kendale Lakes.

Officers were called to the house on Sunday afternoon to check on the welfare of the residents and found all four bodies. A handgun was lying next to Regueira Jr.’s body.

The bodies were first discovered by Joanna Cruz, a family friend whose mother was bringing food to Morato, who was in hospice care.

“She couldn’t cook anymore, so my mom came to give her food and she knocked and knocked and nothing. And she asked me to bring the key,” Cruz said Monday.

A woman who discovered the scene of an apparent murder-suicide in southwest Miami-Dade said she was “numb” after finding the bodies of family friends, NBC6’s Lena Salzbank reports.

What she found inside was a bloody scene.

“I saw the elderly lady on the bed and the body of the elderly man on the bed to the left, blood coming out of their mouths, and the woman in the other room,” Cruz said. “I feel like I’m in a nightmare.”

The older woman’s stepson told NBC6 he had been trying to contact her for the past three to four days but had not received a response. When he went to check on her, he found her and the others dead as well.

Kerstyn Stahre’s sister spoke to NBC6 on Monday and said she was in shock because her brother-in-law was not a violent person.

“I think the problem was that his mother had suffered a severe stroke and was in hospice. His mother was his life. Because someone had said that he was not coping well. His mother was there, but she was put in hospice. His mother was his favorite person in the world. I don’t know what happened to his father, but I know that’s probably what happened,” said Carol Miloch.

Miloch said she was convinced that Regueira killed her sister because her sister herself suffered from a mental disorder and he may have felt she could not be alone without him.

Police are investigating after a family member said four people were found dead in a home in southwest Miami-Dade on Sunday.

Catholic Health Services and Catholic Hospice confirmed that Morato was one of their patients.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased during this deeply difficult time. We extend our sincere condolences and offer them our support as they navigate this tragedy,” the organization said in a statement. “We are a Catholic health care organization committed to the well-being and safety of our patients and are fully cooperating with authorities.”

A neighbor who wished to remain anonymous said health workers who were at the home last week expressed concern.

“They were just concerned about the son because he didn’t seem to be doing well emotionally,” the neighbor said.

She said staff who made daily visits were unable to get into the home on Thursday and Friday.

“They kept calling and knocking on the door, and that’s when we called 911 on Friday, but they saw no movement inside, no reason to break in. They didn’t know if they had left or what,” the neighbor said.

According to police, all four people had lived in the house.
