Moulvi arrested for raping 17-year-old girl to exorcise ghosts in Chitradurga

Chitradurga: The Moulvi of a local mosque has been arrested by the women’s police station investigators on suspicion of raping a 17-year-old girl on the pretext of exorcising the spirit that had possessed her.

The girl’s 23-year-old brother was also arrested for complicity.

The victim gave birth prematurely and is being treated at the local district hospital. The Moulvi, identified as Abdul Rehman from Uttar Pradesh, has been teaching the girl Quran for the past three years. Rehman has been living in the state for 20 years now.

The Moulvi made the family of the girl who had completed the second PU believe that she was possessed and asked her mother to leave the house so that he could cure her.

Rehman also had the girl’s brother rape her to “exorcise the ghost” and filmed the act on his mobile phone. He warned the family not to tell anyone about the weekly “treatment” because it would be ineffective.

The girl complained of severe stomach pain and was taken to the district hospital, where she described her ordeal.

“We have received details of the incident from the district hospital. The suspects have been taken into custody and are being questioned. A rape case and a case under the Pocso Act have been registered,” said district police commissioner Dharmendra Kumar Meena.
