19-year-old Marengo man charged with sexually abusing Crystal Lake woman who was ‘unable’ to consent – Shaw Local

A Marengo man is accused of sexually abusing a person who was “incapable of giving informed consent.”

Joshua P. Schock, 19, of the 200 block of West Grant Highway, is charged with two counts of sexual abuse of an incapable person, one of which is a Class 1 felony and the other a Class 4 felony, according to the criminal complaint filed by Crystal Lake police in McHenry County District Court.

Schock, who is currently serving a 24-month suspended sentence as a first-time offender in Boone County on charges of illegal possession of a handgun and cocaine, was booked into the county jail on Saturday to remain in court. He pleaded guilty on Sept. 13, 2023, and was also sentenced to 100 hours of community service and 20 days in jail, according to the Boone County District Court’s office.

On March 7, at 9:30 p.m., Schock allegedly sexually assaulted a person in a vehicle who was unable to give consent, the indictment states.

The order remanding Schock in pretrial detention, signed by Judge Mark Facchini, cites Schock’s cases in Boone County and McHenry County and says they “demonstrate that there are no conditions or established framework that could mitigate the threat posed (by Schock).”

“The fact that the (alleged victim) was unable to give consent due to her state of intoxication indicates a certain level of violence, in addition to the fact that the defendant is accused of committing a sexual offense,” Facchini wrote in the order, referring to his dangerousness.

Schock, who was appointed deputy public defender, is due in court on Wednesday.
