Two young siblings died after being swept away by a river in San Bernardino County – NBC Los Angeles

Two children who were found in a creek in San Bernardino County died Tuesday, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

A mother and her two children, a four-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy, were playing near Mill Creek near the Thurman Flats picnic area Tuesday afternoon.

According to the sheriff’s department, the mother was caring for her son when her daughter was taken downstream.

When the mother tried to look for her, the two-year-old boy also disappeared and was probably also taken downstream.

The mother sought help from another family at the picnic site but could not find her children.

According to the station, at approximately 4:03 p.m., officers from Yucaipa Station, Sheriff’s Air Rescue, Mentone Station County Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service Rescue Squad and members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Division assisted in the search the children.

At 4:39 p.m. the 4-year-old girl and at 5:04 p.m. the 2-year-old boy were found on the river bank.
Both children were taken to the hospital for evaluation, but “after extensive life-saving measures, they were pronounced dead,” the department said.
