Buffalo Zoo launches new show featuring rescue dogs as busy summer season begins

Puppies from the “Canine Champions for Conservation” will entertain zoo crowds six days a week throughout the summer.

BUFFALO, NY — The busy summer season is in full swing at the Buffalo Zoo.

The colorful lanterns for Zoomagination have arrived, kids are filling the park for school field trips, and some of the most popular animals aren’t even the zoo’s permanent residents.

These are the dogs who star in “Canine Champions for Conservation,” a new show in town for the season.

“This is our new show on the spotlight, it features all the rescued dogs doing cool behaviors. They kind of show the connection the dogs have with conservation and nature here,” said Christian Dobosiewicz , responsible for marketing and public relations at the zoo.

The dogs on the show were rescued from shelters across the country and trained to show off their skills in jumping, sniffing, catching Frisbees and even jumping rope.

Hours are Wednesday to Monday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. There is no show on Tuesday.

The Buffalo Zoo is also gearing up for a new season of Zoomagination, which features colorful lanterns and light displays.

This year’s event begins on June 21. More information is available on the Buffalo Zoo website.
