Utica man arrested after threatening driver

UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — According to Utica Police, a Utica man was arrested on Saturday, June 1, after threatening a motorist with a handgun.

On Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Oriskany Street at around 2:45 p.m. Upon arrival, they were informed of an altercation between two motorists, which included the suspect.


According to police, the victim pulled into a nearby parking lot when the altercation began. The suspect – later identified as 44-year-old Steven Zangrilli of Utica – followed the victim into the parking lot to allegedly continue the argument.

During the argument, Zangrilli allegedly pointed a gun at the victim and began threatening him. Officers were given a description of the victim’s vehicle, which they found and stopped shortly afterward.

After positively identifying Zangrilli, he was taken into custody. Upon further investigation of the vehicle, a replica handgun was allegedly found inside. Zangrilli was then transported to the Utica Police Department.

He is accused of:

  • Second-degree menacing, a Class A misdemeanor, and
  • Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D violent felony.
