Teenager fights for her life after accident on Crow River

HANOVER (WJON News) – A teenager is clinging to life after a near-drowning accident in the Crow River in Hanover.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a possible drowning just after 1 p.m. Sunday. Authorities said a mother, her 16-year-old daughter and her 15-year-old son entered the river on paddleboards and a kayak.

During their trip, the group collided with trees hanging over the river and fell into the water. The woman and the boy managed to free themselves, but the 16-year-old girl got stuck and was pulled under the water.

The girl’s father and another passerby managed to pull the girl from the river and rescue efforts were initiated. First responders were able to find a pulse and the unresponsive girl was then flown by helicopter to the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital.

According to the sheriff’s office, the girl was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident and her condition remains critical.
