Jeffrey Epstein accuser sues psychiatrist Henry Jarecki over alleged rape and sex trafficking – NBC Chicago

  • A woman who claims she was sexually abused by Jeffrey Epstein has filed a lawsuit against famed psychiatrist, entrepreneur and commodities trader Henry Jarecki, alleging that he raped and trafficked her.
  • The woman’s lawsuit in New York federal court alleges that Moviefone co-founder Jarecki abused her after Epstein sent her to him for psychiatric treatment.
  • Jarecki “was aware that the women Epstein sent were under his control and that Jarecki could attempt to sexually abuse them himself without risk of being reported,” the lawsuit states.

A woman who says she was sexually abused by Jeffrey Epstein filed a lawsuit against famed psychiatrist, entrepreneur and commodities trader Henry Jarecki on Monday, claiming Jarecki raped and sex trafficked her after Epstein sent her for psychiatric treatment.

The unidentified woman’s civil lawsuit in Manhattan federal court says Jarecki, 91, was a “close friend” of the late wealth manager Epstein, who committed suicide in prison in 2019.

Epstein allegedly sent Jarecki other young women to the psychiatrist for confidential “treatment” in order to “avoid unwanted attention to Epstein’s sexual abuse of these young women,” the lawsuit states.

“Jarecki was also aware that the women Epstein sent were under his control and that Jarecki could attempt to sexually abuse them himself without risk of prosecution,” says the lawsuit, first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

The indictment, which refers to the woman as “Jane Doe 11,” says Jarecki “repeatedly raped” her from 2011 to December 2014.

It also alleges that the Moviefone co-founder and film producer took testosterone pills to increase “his sex drive” and “began inviting other men over and forcing Jane Doe 11 to have sex with those other men in front of him, which he did on several occasions.”

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for sexual assault, sex trafficking and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Brad Edwards, an attorney for the plaintiff, said in an email to CNBC: “This is an important lawsuit brought by a brave young woman whom we are pleased to represent.”

“We hope their courage encourages others to feel safe speaking out,” Edwards said.

CNBC has contacted Jareck’s attorney, Sarita Kedia, for comment.

In a statement to the Wall Street Journal, Kedia said: “The allegations will be proven to be completely false and baseless. At no time did Dr. Jarecki behave in an offensive manner toward the plaintiff or any other person.”

Jarecki, an associate professor at the Yale School of Medicine, was awarded the Pardes Humanitarian Prize in Mental Health by the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation in November last year. He is co-author of the textbook Modern Psychiatric Treatment.

In the 1980s, Jarecki was called the “dean of the American gold market” by the New York Times for his role as chairman of Mocatta Metals Corp.

In 1999, he and his son Andrew Jarecki, a documentary filmmaker who made “Capturing the Friedmans,” sold their online ticket website Moviefone to AOL for nearly $390 million in stock.

Epstein, 66, committed suicide in a New York federal prison in August 2019 after being arrested on child sex trafficking charges a month earlier.
