Hastings police identify woman killed in fatal pedestrian crash

HASTINGS, Nebraska (KSNB) – Hastings Police have determined the identity of the woman killed in a fatal pedestrian crash last week.

Captain Jason Haase said the crash victim was identified as 71-year-old Joyce Brannon of Hastings.

According to police, Brannon died on May 29 while crossing the street with her mobility scooter at the intersection of West South Street and South Hastings Avenue.

Several witnesses told Hastings Police that Brannon looked before crossing the street and continued walking even though a pickup truck was traveling east on South Street.

Captain Haase said it was too late for the 73-year-old pickup driver to stop his vehicle without hitting her.

Further investigation reveals that Brannon had other near-misses with her scooter, and police believe it may have been an age-related situation. For this reason, no charges or citations are expected against the pickup truck driver.
