14-year-old rescued by rescue helicopter after quad bike accident

(WJET/WFXP) – A Crawford County teenager was seriously injured Saturday night when he collided with a tractor while driving an all-terrain vehicle.

Emergency crews were called to the 29000 block of Drake Hill Road in Wayne Twp. around 5:15 p.m. after a 14-year-old boy collided with a tractor-trailer and was ejected.

According to Pennsylvania State Police in Meadville, the 14-year-old was driving downhill on Drake Hill Road when they made a blind right turn while the tractor driver made a blind left turn on the same curve.

The ATV was reportedly sideways when the two vehicles collided. The ATV struck the left tire of the tractor, the left rear tire and the left front of the trailer it was pulling, ejecting the 14-year-old while the ATV continued on its own and eventually ended up in a ditch.

Police said the 14-year-old suffered serious, life-threatening injuries in the crash. They also reported that the teen was not wearing a helmet properly and had to be flown by Stat Med Evac to a local trauma center. His condition remains critical.

The driver of the tractor was not injured in the accident.
