Incendiary bomb, also known as Molotov cocktail

The Israeli embassy in Romania was attacked on Monday by a terrorist “apparently of Syrian origin” who threw an incendiary device (Molotov cocktail) at the entrance door to the building’s lobby, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said.

A foreign national was arrested in the Romanian capital on Monday after allegedly attacking the entrance to the Israeli embassy with a Molotov cocktail, causing a small fire but no casualties, local media and police reported.

Local security forces arrested the man, a foreigner, in the capital Bucharest.

“There were no injuries and no material damage in the incident. The suspect has been handed over to local authorities for investigation,” the ministry added.

The Israeli embassy in Mexico City was set on fire last week during an event called “Urgent Action for Rafah,” which quickly escalated into riots.

Also last week, rioters in Istanbul attempted to attack the Israeli consulate by climbing over the fence and throwing burning fireworks and other flammable materials at the building.

Earlier this year (January 31, 2024), a hand grenade was thrown at the Israeli embassy in the Swedish capital Stockholm. Investigators concluded that the Swedish organized crime network Foxtrot carried out the attack on the complex on behalf of Tehran.

Israel’s international intelligence agency Mossad said last Thursday (May 30) that the Islamic Republic of Iran was behind these and a series of other attacks on Israeli embassies across Europe since the Gaza-based terrorist organization Hamas – and Iranian proxy – began its war against Israel on October 7, 2023.

In recent months, dozens of terrorist attacks against Jewish and Israeli targets in Europe that were supported by Iran have been uncovered, many of which involved local crime rings, the agency said.
