4-year-old accidentally shoots himself in Cheverly; suspect arrested – NBC4 Washington

A four-year-old girl shot and injured herself in Cheverly, Maryland. Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the weapon.

Prince George’s County police were called to a residence in the 6400 block of Landover Road around 10:45 p.m. Sunday. They found the little girl had been shot in the arm. She was taken to Children’s National Hospital, Cheverly police said.

The shooting was accidental, the district police said after initial investigations.

Cheverly police said one person was found at the scene and arrested. No information was immediately released about the charges against that person or their relationship to the child.

According to the US CDC, accidental gunshot wounds are one of the leading causes of death among children. They emphasize the importance of storing firearms safely.
