Man arrested after boating accident in Quebec’s Laurentians Mountains kills child

MONTREAL – A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a young child in a boating accident in the Upper Laurentian Mountains region of Quebec.

Quebec provincial police said the suspect driving the boat could potentially face charges of driving under the influence of alcohol causing death.

He was arrested on Sunday and released on condition that he appear in court at a later date.

On Saturday, at around 6:15 p.m., police were called to the Baskatong Dam, which is about 220 kilometers northwest of Montreal.

Police released few details but said the body of the child, who was younger than five, was found in the water during the night.

According to police, only one boat was involved.
