In a new development in the Pune luxury car accident case, the minor accused of running over two people has admitted to Pune police that he was driving drunk on May 19.

During interrogation, he told police that he did not realise that the car had hit two people, Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, who died. The teenager said he could not remember the sequence of events as he was heavily drunk. The accident occurred at around 2.15 am on May 19 in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area when the car hit a motorcycle, killing the two IT professionals.

The police interrogation lasted more than an hour on Sunday. The accused was questioned in the presence of his mother, officers of the Criminal Investigation Department, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunil Tambe and the District Child Protection Officer.

Speaking to reporters, a CID officer said the minor was questioned about details of his whereabouts before the accident, duration of his visits to bars and the accident itself. The accused was questioned about tampering with evidence, delay in taking his blood sample, medical tests and the treatment he received at Yerwada police station. The officer said the boy kept saying he was drunk and could not remember much about that fateful night.
