Six arrested for rape of minors and extortion in Ajmer: BJP demands action

Six men were arrested and a youth detained for allegedly raping a minor and extorting money from her in Ajmer in the state of Rajasthan, police officials said on Monday.

The authorities registered a case on May 31, which led to the arrest of two suspects, including the main accused Irfan, on Sunday. Circle Collector (North) and Investigation Officer Rudra Prakash Sharma said four more suspects were arrested on Monday.

The ordeal began in December when the main accused, Irfan, befriended the minor through social media. He forced her to reveal her Instagram password and then sent doctored messages and altered photos to her acquaintances. In the months that followed, Irfan raped and blackmailed the girl, eventually extorting money from her. His accomplices, whose role is still being investigated, are said to have helped him.

The matter came to light when the victim’s father noticed that she was stealing money. The authorities have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to dig deeper and ensure that no other victim is missed.

At the same time, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a protest rally in front of the police commissioner’s office, demanding swift and tough action against the perpetrators. BJP district president Ramesh Soni stressed the need for a detailed investigation to prevent possible repetition, citing a similar scandal in 1992 in which several girls were raped and blackmailed.

Neeraj Jain, deputy mayor of Ajmer Municipal Corporation, asked the police to expand their investigation to identify other suspects possibly involved in the incident.
