RCCG suspends Pastor Iluyomade whose wife hosted a lavish party

The City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Lagos has decided to suspend Pastor Idowu Iluyomade following the controversial birthday celebration of his wife.

This decision comes shortly after the death of Herbert Wigwe, former Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc.

According to a report by the ChurchTimes, a senior pastor of the church, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the suspension of Pastor Iluyomade was initiated by the church’s board of directors.

The move was reportedly a response to widespread public outrage over the extravagant party.

“The decision to suspend him was not taken by Pastor Adeboye. The Board of Directors deliberated on the matter and made this decision.”

“It is believed to be a step in the right direction, although some say it is long overdue,” the source said.

The suspension was communicated to Pastor Iluyomade by letter over the weekend, sources within the church confirmed.

Pastor Charles Kpandei of RCCG Resurrection Parish in Region 11 was appointed as interim replacement for Pastor Iluyomade.

Herbert Wigwe, who died aboard a helicopter in February, was a member of the City of David congregation.

His wife Chizoba, his son Chizi and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), were also killed in the tragic incident.

After Wigwe’s death, a lavish birthday party was organized for the wife of the parish priest, Dr. Siju Iluyomade.

The event, which took place at Eko Hotels and Suites on Victoria Island in Lagos, attracted attention and criticism from various quarters.
