2 Florida men arrested in Alpena County for series of crimes at Home Depot – 9&10 News

ALPENA COUNTY – Two men were arrested for stealing nearly $40,000 worth of merchandise, mostly from Home Depot stores, the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

On June 1 at 3:10 p.m., the Home Depot in Alpena reported that two men stole a large quantity of power tools by leaving the store without paying.

Home Depot had an employee pursue the men’s vehicle westbound on M-32 from Florida until it reached the area of ​​Indian Reserve Road, officials said. The employee then called off the pursuit of the car, and officers from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police searched the area, officials said.

An Alpena County Sheriff’s Office sergeant found the vehicle on M-32 near Jacks Landing Road in Green Township and stopped it, officials said.

During the traffic stop, several toll booths were identified as belonging to Home Depot, officials said.

The driver and passenger were arrested. They are both from Florida, officials said.

While searching the vehicle, officers found stolen power tools totaling $34,960 from six different Home Depot stores in Michigan, as well as $2,200 worth of merchandise stolen from TJ Maxx in Saginaw, officers said.

The Alpena County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the U.S. Border Patrol in identifying the suspects, officials said.
