Bahraich (UP), June 3 (PTI) – A local court on Monday sentenced a 22-year-old man to death for the rape and killing of a four-and-a-half-year-old girl earlier this year.

Special District and Sessions Court (POCSO) Judge Deep Kant Mani also imposed a fine of Rs 110,000 on him, government lawyer Sant Pratap Singh said.

Singh said that Rajesh alias Lala of a village under Kaiserganj police station raped a girl on February 21.

Her body was found in a sugarcane field near the village and Rajesh was arrested on suspicion, Singh said.

During their investigation, the police found that Rajesh’s brother Kallu had helped him in the crime. Kallu is still on the run.

The court ordered that the entire amount of the fine be paid to the victim’s mother.
