Dolev Yehud: Israeli missing during Hamas attack found dead | World News

A man believed to have been taken hostage during the October 7 Hamas attack has been found dead, the Israeli military said.

The body of Dolev Yehud, a 35-year-old volunteer medic, was found in the border village where he lived.

After a lengthy forensic investigation, Israel’s The military confirmed that the remains were those of Mr. Yehud, whose name was also spelled “Yehoud.”

It was said that he was one of Dozens of residents of Kibbutz Nir Oz were killed.

According to Israeli media reports, Yehud’s wife Sigal, who was nine months pregnant on October 7, gave birth to their fourth child nine days after the attack.

The Hamas attack left around 1,200 people dead in southern Israeli communities and around 250 people taken hostage.

According to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians, more than 36,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli bombings and ground operations in the Gaza Strip.

Following the announcement of Mr Yehud’s case, the Israeli government said it believed 120 hostages were still held in the Gaza Strip. More than 100 hostages were released in late November as part of a ceasefire with Hamas.

Thirty-nine of them were declared dead in absentia by Israel based on witness statements, forensic examinations and intelligence information.

It comes after tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in Tel Aviv to demand the resignation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the immediate release of the hostages at the weekend.

Thousands demand Netanyahu’s resignation

An estimated 120,000 people took to the streets on Friday to demand that the ruling coalition accept a ceasefire deal outlined by US President Joe Biden, in what was believed to be the largest demonstration against Mr Netanyahu’s government.

The agreement provides for the gradual release of hostages captured during Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, in return for the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.
