1 dead after collision between Tesla and motorcycle in Silver Spring, police say

Montgomery County police are investigating a collision between a motorcycle and a Tesla in Silver Spring over the weekend that left one man dead.

Police in Montgomery County, Maryland, say they are investigating a nighttime collision between a motorcycle and a Tesla in Silver Spring that left a man dead early Saturday morning.

Police said officers were called to the intersection of University Boulevard and Kerwin Road shortly after midnight for a report of a collision between a white 2023 Tesla Model 3 and a black and green Kawasaki motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, Antonio Martinez Gamez, 28, of Silver Spring, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to a press release.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that Martinez Gamez’s motorcycle was traveling east on University Boulevard toward Kerwin Road shortly before the crash. At the same time, the Tesla driver, who was traveling north on Kerwin Road, turned left onto University Boulevard.

According to police, Martinez Gamez “tried to avoid the car but ultimately crashed into the driver’s side of the Tesla.”

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department said the investigation into the accident is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Criminal Investigation at (240) 773-6620.
