Porsche accident in Pune: Teenage driver seen on surveillance camera footage in a bar with friends.

The 17-year-old who drove his unregistered Porsche Taycan into a bicycle, killing two 24-year-old software developers, confessed to police in Pune that he was driving while drunk and therefore could not remember what happened on May 19, when the accident occurred.

A report by India today quoted sources as saying that the youth, who is currently in an observation home, told police that he was driving while heavily intoxicated at the time of the accident in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area.

“I can not remember”

The teenager told the Pune Criminal Investigation Department that he could not fully remember all the incidents from the day of the accident.

The boy, son of influential real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, was released on bail by the juvenile court just 15 hours after the accident, under conditions that were widely criticised and described as “lenient”. He was ordered to write a 300-word essay, work in the traffic police for 15 days and undergo psychiatric treatment and counselling for his drinking addiction.

The JJB’s decision sparked widespread public outrage, with many, including the Pune Police, demanding that the youth be tried as an adult for this heinous crime.

The JJB later changed its order and sent him to an observation home.

This was allegedly done on the instructions of the minor accused’s father.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said Ms Agarwal had feigned ignorance as to why doctors at Sassoon Hospital had asked her to give her blood sample and not that of her son.

The Pune court on Sunday remanded Shivani Agarwal and Vishal Agarwal in police custody till June 5 in connection with a destruction of evidence case.
