A large police presence was reported in Unity

A Unity man is being held in the Waldo County Jail after officials say he shot a forest ranger Monday afternoon. The unidentified Maine Forest ranger reportedly called for backup at 118 Jacy Place in Unity at 1:02 p.m. after two shots were fired, one in his direction. At the time, the ranger was investigating reports of illegally felled trees. The ranger was neither hit nor injured. A State Police tactical team, Forest Service helicopters and officers from the Sheriff’s Office and Warden Service responded.Sharod D. Parker, 38, was arrested on the property for reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. After reportedly obtaining a search warrant, officers and members of the Forest Service searched the home and seized evidence. A bystander video showed more than two dozen emergency vehicles on both sides of Route 139. Traffic remains fully open in both directions as of Monday evening. Officials say more details will be released at a later date.
