1 dead in vehicle-to-vehicle shooting in downtown LA

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — One person was killed and two others injured in a gang-related vehicle-to-vehicle shooting in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, authorities said.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the area of ​​Maple Avenue and 12th Street.

The victims were in a vehicle stopped at a traffic light when another vehicle stopped and the gunman appeared from the sunroof, police said. He fired several shots and the suspect’s vehicle drove away. Police did not have a description of the vehicle.

Paramedics took a man between the ages of 17 and 20 to a hospital, where he died of gunshot wounds. The second victim, a man in his 20s, was in critical condition. The third victim, an 18-year-old woman, was in stable condition.

It was the second fatal shooting involving victims in a vehicle in Los Angeles in less than 24 hours. At about 2 p.m. Saturday, two men were shot outside 1122 Browning Blvd., about a block from USC. The victims were sitting in a silver sedan when a man, believed to be about 35 years old, approached them, fired several shots at them and then fled in an older-model white four-door Toyota sedan, police said.

There was no immediate indication that the two attacks were related.
