Driver killed in Route 220 crash identified | News, Sports, Jobs

The driver of a pickup truck was killed late Saturday afternoon when his vehicle left the road and overturned on Route 220 at the Reach Road intersection, city police said.

The deputy medical examiner pronounced Wayne Allen Gower, 30, of 45 Back Street, Montoursville, dead at the scene from blunt force trauma.

Gower, who was pulling a trailer, was driving south on Route 220 when he lost control of his vehicle around 4:45 p.m., police said.

A passenger, Brett Nichols, 29, of the same address, was taken to UPMC Williamsport for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

According to investigators, it appeared Gower, who also had an address on the city’s High Street, was overtaking another vehicle and oversteered when the trailer hitch began to sway, causing him to lose control, police said.

Gower was thrown from the truck and landed 10 to 15 feet from the vehicle, the deputy coroner said.
