The final of the OSU baseball game against the UC Irvine Corvallis Regional was postponed until Monday due to rain

The Oregon State Beavers baseball team is just one win away from securing a place in the NCAA Super Regionals.

Oregon State defeated UC Irvine 5-3 on Saturday at Goss Stadium to advance to the final of the Corvallis Regional. The Beavers got big performances from Travis Bazzana, Dallas Macias and Jacob Kmatz to help them beat the Anteaters in front of 4,224 fans at home.

The Beavers’ Corvallis regional final against UC Irvine began at 6 p.m. Sunday but was suspended due to rain and will resume at 12:06 p.m. Monday.

OSU leads UC Irvine 6-4 and play resumes Monday with half of the fourth inning.

UC Irvine defeated Tulane on Sunday afternoon to secure a spot in the regional finals and a rematch against the Beavers.

End of 4th inning – Oregon 6, UC Irvine 4 – Game suspended

Due to heavy rain in Corvallis, the referees decided to stop the game.

It will resume on Monday at 12:06 p.m. in the middle of the fourth inning.

Top of the 4th inning – Oregon State 6, UC Irvine 4

Micah McDowell hit a leadoff single and two batters later Dallas Macias hit a double into right field. But he slid past second base and was picked off. The out was productive nonetheless, as McDowell later scored on a wild pitch from third base.

End of 3rd inning – Oregon State 5, UC Irvine 4

After a disastrous first inning, Oregon State starter Eric Segura seems to have settled back in. He held UC Irvine hitless for the second inning in a row.

Segura will have 68 pitches this evening.

The Beavers loaded the bases for Travis Bazzana, but he flew out to left field, ending the inning.

Eric Segura looked much better in the second inning and managed a scoreless run despite a leadoff walk.

After Brady Kasper was walked, the team decided to replace opener Nick Rincover, who threw a season-high 26 pitches. Rincover made way for junior right-hander David Utagawa, who threw 2.0 scoreless innings against the Beavers on Saturday.

Utagawa allowed a two-run walk to Wilson Weber with no one out. Then Elijah Hainline stepped up to bat and hit a three-run home run to get the Beavers back in the game.

After another pitcher change, Travis Bazzana stunned left-handed rookie Ryder Brooks with a loud sacrifice fly to bring home Mason Guerra and tie the game at 4-4. Then Gavin Turley followed with a double off the center field wall to put the Beavers back in front.

Brooks finally escaped the inning with a hard-hit flyout from Dallas Macias to the warning track in right field.

End of 1st inning – UC Irvine 4, Oregon State 0

Oregon State freshman starting pitcher Eric Segura had a nightmare start to the first postseason appearance of his career. After a leadoff single by Woody Hadeen, Segura worked two straight walks to load the bases. Anthony Martinez got the Anteaters on the scoreboard with a groundout to second base to bring Hadeen home.

Then Dub Gleed hit a clear three-run home run into the right field stands to make it 4-0.

On his 40th pitch of the evening, Segura ended the inning with a strikeout of Chase Call.

Start of the 1st inning – Oregon State 0, UC Irvine 0

UC Irvine is the home team tonight, and if another game is needed on Monday to decide the regional championship, the Beavers will be the home team.

Anteaters opener Nick Rincover avoided a walk by Gavin Turley with two outs to complete a scoreless inning.
