Commanders fire Brandon McManus over allegations of sexual harassment during his time with the Jaguars last season

The Washington Commanders announced that they have released veteran kicker Brandon McManus after two women accused him of sexual harassment during his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.

McManus was set to be the Commanders’ starting kicker this season, but they will continue their voluntary training sessions on Monday without a player in their squad.

Last month, two flight attendants filed a lawsuit alleging that McManus sexually harassed them on a flight to London while he was with the Jaguars.

The women, whose names were not released, said McManus rubbed and ground against them during the flight. The women are also suing the Jaguars because they say the team failed to supervise McManus and provide them with a safe environment.

The lawsuit alleges that McManus threw $100 bills at the women to make them dance inappropriately as the flight “quickly turned into a party.”

One of the women said McManus “smirked and walked away” after she confronted him, while the other woman said a Jaguars teammate appeared ashamed of McManus’ behavior when she made eye contact with him during his first alleged assault.

The lawsuit says McManus attempted to kiss one of the women.

Both women said they suffered severe mental anguish, anxiety, psychological and emotional distress, embarrassment and humiliation, the lawsuit states.

The Jaguars released a statement after the lawsuit was filed: “We are aware of the complaint and recognize the significance of the allegations. As we continue to investigate the matter, it must be emphasized that we insist on an organization built by people who represent our community and our game with the highest character and class.”

The commanders did the same.

“Today we were informed of the civil lawsuit filed against Brandon McManus on May 24. We take such allegations very seriously and are investigating the matter. We are in contact with the league office and Brandon’s representative and will refrain from further comment at this time.”

McManus’s attorney, Brett R. Gallaway, told ESPN that his client vehemently denies the allegations made by the two flight attendants.

“These are absolutely fabricated and demonstrably false allegations made as part of a campaign to defame and disparage a talented and respected NFL player,” Gallaway’s statement to ESPN said. “We intend to vigorously defend Brandon’s rights and integrity and clear his name by showing these allegations for what they really are – an extortion attempt.”
