Cruise passengers fall ill on Vancouver-Texas flight

Everyone who got sick was on a cruise that ended in Vancouver.

A group of passengers who flew from Vancouver to Houston, Texas, over the weekend were welcomed back to the United States by medical personnel after falling ill during the flight.

United Flight 1528 left Vancouver on Friday, May 31 under normal circumstances, but during the trip, 25 passengers all became ill, according to United Airlines.

“A group of 75 travelers on this flight were previously on a cruise to Vancouver,” Capt. Sedrick Robinett of the Houston Fire Department told VIA. “25 of these travelers were sick from the cruise. They complained of nausea.”

He notes that the patients were evaluated at George Bush Intercontinental Airport but released; no one was taken to the emergency room.

United Airlines says the company is coordinating with health authorities to remedy the situation.

“As a precautionary measure, the aircraft will be taken out of service and will undergo a thorough cleaning before returning to service,” the airline said in an email to VIA.

The Boeing 737 Max 8 left Vancouver airport with 163 passengers and six crew members.
