Sterling Heights police have some advice for anyone looking to take a plant from the soon-to-be-closed Lakeside Mall.

“False information,” the police described their advice in a Facebook post on Sunday afternoon.

Someone had previously posted a message saying that the plants remaining at the Hall Road shopping centre would be available free of charge to anyone who wanted to remove them.

“The workers said they would all be thrown away when the mall closed,” the post said. “Thought I’d let the plant lovers know!”

According to police, people came into the mall and tried to remove the plants.

“Be sure to check such information before heading to the location,” police said in their Facebook post.

The owners of the mall, which opened in the 1970s, plan to close the almost empty shopping center permanently on July 1. Parts of the building will then be demolished and construction work will soon begin as part of a billion-dollar redevelopment program.
