Fathers of Jefferson County children killed by their mother speak out

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Missouri – On Sunday afternoon, residents of Jefferson County and beyond came together to support the family of 9-year-old Scarlet and 2-year-old Isaac, who tragically lost their lives Tuesday.

The Bullpen Sports Grill hosted a fundraiser and silent auction to raise money for the grieving family to cover funeral expenses and other needs.

On Sunday, 5 On Your Side met for the first time with the fathers of both children, Jason Daugherty and Michael Baum.

“They were like two peas in a pod. And they just loved each other,” said Scarlet’s father, Jason Daugherty.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported a beautiful vigil moment where balloons were released at the Twin City Little League softball field, a place where Scarlet spent her hours as a pitcher. She was also involved in gymnastics and cheerleading. Her coaches at Flipside in Festus said she had so much energy and a big heart.

“She did beautiful somersaults and flights. She was beautiful. And then she smiled. And that’s what drew attention to her,” Flipside cheerleading coach Jen Wright previously told 5 On Your Side.
