Family of four injured in hit-and-run, driver arrested

Accident occurred due to a dropped water bottle while driving

Four members of a family, including a one-and-a-half-year-old girl, were involved in a hit-and-run accident near Blue Berry Complex, Gurukul Circle in Nikol district late on Friday. The accident occurred when the family was walking along the road and was rammed by a speeding car. All four sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital for treatment. The traffic police have registered a case in the matter.

The accident reportedly occurred due to a dropped water bottle. According to police, the accused was drinking water while driving when the bottle slipped from his hand and fell. The driver tried to pick up the bottle while driving, lost control and hit the four pedestrians.

One of the victims has been identified as Ankit Virani (28), a native of Junagadh, who lives at Divyajeet Bungalows in Nikol area and works in an IT company. He was walking towards Gurukul Circle in Nikol with his wife Dolly, daughter Manasvi (16 months old) and brother-in-law Arjun Kathiria on Friday evening. They were on their way home when they were hit by a speeding auto driver. Arjun was thrown up to five feet before landing on the ground. The other three were also injured.

Some people tried to chase the driver but he managed to escape despite the heavy traffic. The 1st Division Traffic Police chased the car and arrested the driver Arjun Thakor, 34, a resident of Odhav. AM
