Dale County sex crime suspect arrested near Tuskegee National Forest

DALE COUNTY, Alabama (WDHN) – After a search lasting several days, officials have arrested and charged a man who allegedly had sexual relations with a child under the age of ten in Dale County.

Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum said they received a call on Friday, May 31, from a Level Plains resident who described witnessing sexual contact between Colt Bryan Lecuyer and a child under the age of 10 in the back seat of Lecuyer’s vehicle. When police arrived at the scene, Lecuyer, who is a registered sex offender and a parolee, fled the scene in his vehicle.

Later Friday, an Auburn police officer said he spotted Lecuyer’s abandoned vehicle in the parking lot of a Walmart in Auburn. Officers searched for the vehicle’s location but were able to find Lecuyer. The abandoned vehicle was returned to Dale County for evidence.

On Sunday, June 2, investigators learned that Lecuyer was walking in the Tuskegee National Forest near the Lee-Macon County line. Multiple officers were called and after pursuing the suspect for four miles, Lecuyer was arrested in a wooded area near County Road 57 in Macon County.

“Individuals like Lecuyer who abuse young children have no place in our society. He is a convicted sex offender, so this is not the first time he has abused a young child, but I pray it will be the last. I applaud the efforts of law enforcement officers who made it their mission this weekend to put him back behind bars where he belongs!”

Lecuyer is currently in the Macon County Jail, but Dale County officials are on their way to transport him back to the Dale County Jail where he faces charges of first-degree rape and sodomy.
