Free agent for Buffalo to sign from Florida

The Florida Panthers are just four wins away from winning the Stanley Cup. Although their opponent is yet to be determined, they have some very attractive names that the Buffalo Sabers could sign. For the player I would like to see in a Sabers uniform, it’s defenseman Brandon Montour.

Sabers fans are no stranger to Brandon as he was with the club from 2019 to 2021. During that span, Montour scored 13 goals and had 29 assists. After being traded to the Panthers, Brandon put up excellent numbers.

This season, he has scored 8 goals and recorded 25 assists in 66 matches played. Montour missed part of the season due to injury, but he played a vital role in Florida’s appearance in the Stanley Cup Final for the second straight season. During the playoffs, he totaled 3 goals and 6 assists.

Why is he the one I want Buffalo to target? First, the Sabers need to improve the blue line and Montour would be the perfect fit. I know things didn’t work out well on his first attempt with the blue and gold, but with the current core he would be a great fit.

He’s only 30 years old and not afraid to play naughty. In the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 seasons, Montour scored double-digit goals in both campaigns. The defender is also a right-handed shooter, which Buffalo needs.

As cool as it would be for the Sabers to have Sam Reinhart, I don’t see that happening. Regarding Brandon, I don’t know if that’s possible. But the reason I picked him is because he plays a position that Buffalo needs to improve at.

He had a respectable $3,500,000 cap hit this year, and Buffalo could afford him. The next team we will look at is the Los Angeles Kings.
