2 shots in a building in Oakland County, drugs scattered everywhere

PONTIAC, Mich. – Two people were shot in an Oakland County building and drugs were scattered everywhere, police said.

Oakland County officers were called to Huron Plaza at 704 West Huron Street in Pontiac at 10:52 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024.

Officials said they saw several bullet holes in the front of a building.

When they entered the building, they found a 23-year-old Pontiac man holding an AR-style rifle. Police ordered him to drop the weapon and he complied.

Officers learned the man had been shot in the back. He was taken to the hospital and treated for a minor injury. He is in stable condition.

As they continued to clear the building, officers encountered a second 23-year-old Pontiac man in a back room. The second man had a more serious back injury, they said.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Deputies said they found shell casings in the street and several cars in the parking lot were damaged by ricochets.

Inside the building were several cartridge cases and another loaded AR magazine.

According to police, large amounts of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were scattered throughout the building and were clearly visible. Officers believe the building was used as a meeting place outside of business hours.

Investigators linked a 28-year-old Pontiac man to the shooting. He was arrested without incident and taken to the Oakland County Jail.

Officials said scales, plastic bags and marijuana were found in his car.
