2 dead and 2 injured in shooting in Rock Hill, South Carolina

Two people were killed and two others injured in a shooting Saturday night in Rock Hill, South Carolina, police said.

A 44-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene of a street festival in the city just across the state line from Charlotte, North Carolina. Their names were not immediately released.

A 25-year-old woman was shot in the arm and a 24-year-old man suffered a serious injury, the Rock Hill Herald reported.

No suspects have been arrested or publicly identified in connection with the shooting.

According to the Herald, authorities responded to reports of a shooting at a street festival in the city of 75,000 residents around 10 p.m. Officers found the two dead victims and the injured woman at the scene. The injured man went to the hospital on his own, police said.

Police have not released any further information about the shooting or a possible motive.

The chaos in South Carolina was one of three mass shootings that occurred overnight across the U.S. No suspects were arrested or named in any of the incidents.

Just after midnight, one person was killed and 24 others were injured when shots rang out in the street at an outdoor party in Akron, Ohio. A possible motive for the shooting is still unclear, but authorities said there was no threat to the public.

And in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, a suburb east of Pittsburgh, two people were killed and seven others injured when several people fired shots at each other in a bar, police said.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, there were 191 mass shootings in the United States in 2024. A mass shooting is defined as any shooting with at least four victims. In 2023, there were 655 such incidents.
