Fight breaks out in court during arraignment of man accused of killing Buffalo woman

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A strange turn of events occurred yesterday in a Rochester city courtroom during the arraignment of a man accused of a double murder, including the slaying of a Buffalo woman .

As WGRZ reported Friday, Jermaine Williams, 23, was arrested in Niagara Falls by members of a U.S. Marshals violent crimes task force.

He is charged in the May 6 shooting deaths of Shatina Jones, 46, of Buffalo, and Timothy Chealey, 43, after a fight that initially broke out at a concert in Rochester.

Police said Williams fired several shots at a group of people, including the victims.

Another man was injured.

WHEC – TV in Rochester reports that a fight, involving punches, actually broke out in the courtroom Saturday morning between the victims’ families and the suspect. More than 20 people involved.

Court security officers reportedly broke up the fight by arresting two people.

Williams has pleaded not guilty and is due back in court next Wednesday.
