Man allegedly raped and murdered woman, alleged domestic violence, after her body was found in a Darwin apartment

A man has been charged with raping and murdering a woman in an alleged act of domestic violence.

Emergency services were called to an apartment in Coconut Grove, north of Darwin, at around 12.30pm on Saturday after receiving reports that a woman was unresponsive.

Northern Territory Police and paramedics from St. John Ambulance found the 36-year-old woman in the house and pronounced her dead at the scene.

A 43-year-old man known to the woman was arrested on the property and remains in custody.

On Sunday evening, he was charged with violating a domestic violence restraining order, sexual intercourse without consent and murder.

It is expected that the woman’s death will be treated as a suspected death due to domestic violence.

On Saturday, a crime scene was set up around the apartment block; detectives and forensic investigators were seen on the property.

Police investigations into the woman’s death have been launched and are ongoing.

The suspected murderer was denied bail and is due to appear in court on June 4.
