Latest talks: Labour rejects demand to suspend planned strike

*Discussion of the appeal to the National Assembly with the trade union bodies

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) confirmed on Sunday, June 2, that their planned indefinite strike to resolve the new minimum wage will go ahead as planned.

The unions said their decision remained in place, despite last-minute efforts by the National Assembly leadership to prevent a possible economic shutdown caused by the unions.

The unions said they would meet to discuss the National Assembly leadership’s appeal to suspend the planned strike and allow further dialogue with the institutions before making a decision.
