NATCHEZ – Natchez police have arrested one person as part of the ongoing investigation into a shooting Friday night that left two men and a dog injured.

Wesley Douglas Jr. was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting, which occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Friday at 412 Walnut Street, Commander Jerry Ford said Sunday afternoon.

Hunter Craft and William Rouse were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds after the incident. The dog was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment. Police Chief Cal Green said shortly after the incident that it was unclear whether the dog was hit by gunfire or broken glass. The condition of the injured is currently unknown.

Ford said initial investigations indicate Craft was at the Walnut Street apartment, where he and an unidentified witness were involved in an argument. During the argument, the woman called Rouse, and he came to the house, picked her up and took her to a friend’s house, Ford said. Rouse then returned to the Walnut Street home with Douglas, and an argument ensued between Rouse and Craft.

At some point during the altercation, Ford said, Douglas pulled out a gun and shot Craft.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Ford said, adding that there may be more arrests.
