One dead in Atlanta crash, police say

ATLANTA — One person died and another was injured after a car crashed into a tree in Atlanta Sunday morning, police said.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to I-75 Northbound Expressway NW and Moores Mill Road NW in reference to a vehicle entrapment crash shortly after 6:30 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found a 24-year-old male driver and a 33-year-old female passenger in a Toyota Corolla. Police said the driver was not conscious and once he got out of the car, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was conscious and sent to hospital for treatment.

The preliminary investigation indicates the Toyota was heading north on I-75 when the driver exited the Moores Mill Road exit at a high speed, causing him to lose control of the car, the police said. police. The vehicle then left the roadway and struck a tree before coming to rest in a grassy area off the roadway.

Officers from the Accident Investigation Unit attended the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. This is an ongoing investigation, police said.
