Elevated lead levels found in Badia Spices Inc. branded ground ginger and ground cinnamon – Video News Service

Richard A. Ball, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, today alerted consumers to elevated lead levels in ground ginger and ground cinnamon manufactured by Badia Spices Inc. located at PO Box 226497, Doral, FL 33222. Lead exposure can cause health problems in consumers, especially infants, young children, pregnant women, and people with kidney disease.. Prolonged exposure of a child or pregnant woman to lead can result in permanent central nervous system damage, learning disabilities, developmental delays, and other long-term health problems. No illnesses have been reported to date. Consumers who suspect an injury or illness related to this product should contact a physician immediately.

Badia ground cinnamon, sold in 2-ounce plastic bottles with black plastic caps with UPC Code #033844000158 And Many 305481 And 309528are subject to this warning. A photo of the product is attached to this consumer alert. The product was sold at several retailers in New York State.

The contamination was discovered after New York State Food Laboratory staff conducted an analysis and found that the product’s lead content exceeded the 1 part per million limit for spices.

Consumers who may have purchased these products should not consume them and are advised to discard the product immediately.
