Maryland man arrested for running onto field at Cricket World Cup

A Maryland man was arrested after jumping a fence and walking onto the field without permission at the Cricket World Cup in Nassau County.

According to police, 31-year-old Ashwin Godker ran toward the players after reaching the field at Eisenhower Park. He was quickly arrested and no one was injured.

Some fans told News 12 they were disappointed to hear about the incident.

“Cricket is new to some people in the United States, it’s mostly played in Asia. People who don’t know the sport should respect it even if it’s not their game. Even if they don’t respect it, they have to respect the rules and the game,” said Madiha Rebman.

According to authorities, Godker was charged with trespassing.
