25 Christians killed in Nigeria in April attacks

ABUJA, Nigeria – Relentless attacks on Christians in Nigeria have claimed at least 25 more lives and the country remains the deadliest place in the world for believers.

Nigeria has the highest number of Christians killed or kidnapped in the world because of their faith, according to a statement from the Christian persecution organization Open Doors. Between October 1, 2022 and September 30, 2023, 4,118 Nigerian believers died because of their faith.

  • April 19: Twelve Christians were killed in Tilengpan Pushit community in Plateau State. A resident identified the attackers as Muslim Fulani herdsmen.
  • April 27-28: Seven Christians were killed when Muslim Fulani herdsmen attacked three villages in Benue State, sources said. One Christian was seriously injured.
  • April 28: At least six Christians were killed in an attack on Ugwujoro Nimbo village in Enugu State. Sources said the attackers were Muslim Fulani herdsmen. Seven Christians were injured.
