Child’s body recovered from lake in Laurentian Mountains in Quebec after boating accident


MONTREAL – The body of a child younger than five years old was recovered from a lake in western Quebec after a boating accident, authorities said.

Quebec Provincial Police have released few details about the tragic incident, but say only one boat was involved.

Local police were called to the scene of the accident at around 6:15 p.m., which occurred at the Baskatong Reservoir in the upper Laurentian Mountains region.

Sergeant Ève Brochu-Joubert of the provincial police said divers and maritime patrols had been called in to find the missing victim.

They say the child’s body was discovered during the night and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The provincial police’s special crimes unit and accident reconstruction experts were sent to the scene of the accident to determine what happened to the child.
