SCAD Atlanta opening ceremonies held amid burst water pipes – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — As water main breaks continue to disrupt the city, the Savannah College of Art and Design has moved its scheduled ceremonies to another location.

On Sunday, SCAD announced that the Atlanta debut had been moved to SCADshow, located at 1470 Spring Street in northwest Atlanta.

The first graduation ceremony began at 8:30 a.m. According to the college, during this ceremony, matriculated graduates walk across the main stage of the SCADshow to receive their diplomas.

The final opening ceremony is scheduled for 5 p.m.

On Saturday evening, Mayor Andre Dickens announced that the city of Atlanta was under a state of emergency.

City officials are targeting the brakes aggressively and say they are now starting with the main brakes at the intersection of West Peachtree St. and 11th Street.

Several water main breaks were reported in downtown Atlanta starting Friday and continuing through Saturday morning.

Actor Rob Lowe speaks at the Savannah College of Art and Design Commencement.

Lowe will speak at the ceremonies on the Savannah and Atlanta campuses.

“I am honored to be the SCAD commencement speaker for the Class of 2024 in Savannah and Atlanta,” Lowe said in a press release. “I am particularly honored to play this role on the occasion of SCAD’s 45th anniversary. What a step! »

SCAD says this is the largest graduating class in university history, with more than 3,700 graduates in more than 40 majors.
