Nicki Minaj’s upcoming show in Amsterdam has been cancelled after she was arrested in the Dutch capital last Saturday for allegedly attempting to smuggle “soft drugs” out of the country.

The Trinidad-born rapper and singer was forced, cancel a performance in Manchester that same evening, after being held in custody at Schiphol Airport for around six hours.

After paying a fine of 350 euros (£300), she was allowed to fly to the UK.

The 41-year-old star performed at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome on May 23 and was scheduled to play at the same venue this Sunday, but concert promoter Mojo said the performance would not go ahead “due to the events of the last week.”

The US-based star, known for the songs Starships, Super Bass and Anaconda, described her treatment at the airport as “disgusting” and said she was treated differently because of her race.

A spokesman for the Dutch military police, which deals with all incidents at airports, told Sky News that Minaj’s arrest was “normal procedure when someone tries to pass border control with drugs in their luggage”.

Minaj broadcast her arrest live on social media and claimed that the drugs found in her luggage did not belong to her.

A statement on the promoter’s website reads: “Due to the events of the last week, the Nicki Minaj show on Sunday 2 June at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam will not take place.

“The ticket price will be refunded at the point of purchase.”

The postponed performance in Manchester at the Co-op Live Arena will take place on Monday evening.

Minaj wrote on X last Monday that she had been told her cancelled Manchester performance could only be rescheduled for June 3 and apologized for “any inconvenience” caused to fans.

She added: “I really hope you can make it to the #JUNE3rd show. It’s going to be really special.”
