TSB investigates CN derailment in Alberta

No hazardous substances, no injuries reported in accident involving 20 cars

HINTON, Alberta – The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will investigate a Canadian National Railway derailment that occurred today (Saturday, June 1) west of Edmonton, Global News reports.

TSB spokesman Liam MacDonald said an estimated 20 train cars were involved in the derailment, which occurred at about 5:30 a.m. in Hinton, 51 miles east of Jasper in CN’s Edson district and about 180 miles (288 kilometers) west of Edmonton. No hazardous materials were involved; no injuries were reported.

The Canadian Press quoted a CN spokeswoman as saying that initial reports indicated that the derailed wagons were carrying sand.
