Home Guard soldier who raped widow arrested | Amaravati News

VIZIANAGARAM: A home guard of Srikakulam district police allegedly raped a 40-year-old widow in front of her boyfriend at a remote location in Vizianagaram district, said Nalla Babu.

Though the incident took place on May 25, it came to light only on Friday evening after the victim mustered her courage and filed a complaint at Disha police station. The victim was with her friend in a village. The accused, identified as Raju Kumar (45), saw the duo and approached them in a police vehicle.

The home guard threatened the duo and asked them to go with him to the police station for counseling.

He also demanded and accepted bribes from the duo. Later, Raju and his friend attacked the victim’s boyfriend and tied him up. Raju then raped the woman in front of her friend. Later, the home guard and his friend threatened the victim and her friend.

P Narayana Rao, sub-inspector of Disha police station, told TOI that Raju was the driver of a DSP officer of Srikakulam district police. “On May 25, he had dropped the DSP at the Vizag police station. On his way back to Srikakulam, he had picked up his friend. They saw the victim with her friend at a remote place and committed the crime,” Rao said. “We have arrested the accused and produced them before the court. They have been remanded in judicial custody,” the SI added.
